About Quailwood Designs
A quail walked into the woods…
Quailwood Designs is the brainchild of Clancy Moore, who creates pieces in his dusty workshop in Melbourne’s north.
Clancy holds a Bachelor's degree (hon.) in History and Creative Writing from the University of Melbourne, as well as a Diploma of Spanish, and an English teaching qualification from Cambridge. His academic pursuits have focused on the theatrical arts, and on modern and contemporary Latin American politics and history.
After leaving the academic world, Clancy began to try his hand at woodworking, something he always had a lingering interest in, and in which he saw great therapeutic and intellectual potential. He taught himself to build a bookcase, and felt an instant connection.
A coffee table followed, then a wooden chest, then a serving tray. Before long Clancy realised he was on an inescapable journey into the world of fine joinery, precision, and timber. Before long, this journey led him to establish Quailwood Designs, with the view to creating original, sustainable, and beautiful bespoke pieces of furniture, homewares, and art.
Clancy’s pieces embody an eternal connection between form and function. He embraces the unique qualities of timber, such as its strength and beauty, to create long-living pieces that are as functional as they are beautiful.
